This was one of the first mechanics conceptualized in Simburbia… It’s the reason we decided we could actually do it and release this thing. When Ron was making Tiny Minecraft we were chatting about how cool his map was. Then he came up of the idea of cloning (cloning didn’t even exist then) a circuit board under a grid. The circuit board for each type of plot directly connected to adjacent plots interacting with each other and creating instant relationships. I built a prototype in a day and it worked gloriously. As the updates went on, the process got easier and less resource intense. Ideally it would have been nice to have buildings effect other buildings further away, but I wanted to keep it simple and low on processing power since I already knew there was going to be massive overhead from the bazillion command blocks needed to make this work. The land value system is the most important system in the game.
Every weekend from now on I’ll be releasing a video on Simburbia. So if you’re interested in Sim City in Minecraft, then stay tuned! Of course you could just subscribe to Jigarbov on youtube (http://www.youtube.com/jigarbov)… but there will be additional information right here with each update.

Simburbia Teaser #7 Building & Bulldozing
Here we go. One of the most important mechanics right here. Building and bulldozing your plots! I prototyped a bunch of different methods including hoppers, and even more direct methods like using text to click on, however I wanted an easy way to do it without the use of clocks and to keep it simple. The plot tokens used to be called deeds, but I liked the idea of each token having their appropriate color and didn’t want to give the player blocks… so the firework ball was born. You’ll be building and bulldozing a lot of plots, that’s for sure.

Simburbia Teaser #6 Plot Indicator
The In the previous teaser I introduced you to the main menu, now we’re going to go over the play field for where your city is. The play area is where your city goes, you put plot tokens in and build up your town. But what is that little light indicator for? I wanted to put a simple way to see your plot type, and power status on the mini map. This little indicator fullfills that purpose. Did you know lamps are invisible on the map? So the power indication on the map actually has to do with the block under it. When it is a redstone block (powered) it shows up as a bright red dot on the map. Unpowered turns into a coal block which of course shows up as a little black dot. Also the wool shows what plot type it is and mechanically prevents the player from putting any new build tokens into the slot. A lot of this game is mechanically run actually, hope this next video is interesting for you!

Simburbia Teaser #5 Town Hall & Main Menu
The next 3 videos I post will introduce you to the basics that is Simburbia. This first one introduces you to the town hall which houses the main menu. You will likely come back here often to unlock new town hall designs and run your day to day mayoral duties. Pick new plots, run tax options, turn off and on different overlays and of course run the city wide audits. It looks quite cool in my opinion! It is not using a custom texture pack, it used texelelf’s “Map it!” filter for the button icons.
But as a bonus, rsmalec also put out a video showing a bunch of different town hall designs! Of course he doesn’t show all of them, but it shows a nice level of customization possible for your city.
