Great Works Projects! In the latest Sim City there was a concept of great works projects. They’re big projects that take a lot of time and money to create that greatly benefit the cities surrounding it… Well Simburbia is just a single city, and I wanted great works projects anyway. So these work a little bit differently. I really wanted to “gameify” the process a bit and these great works projects sort of monument in the Minecraft sense. But I also wanted to give them value. Each monument comes with a bunch of added abilities for the player, and other things that benefit the town. They’re expensive and have high requirements, but they’re certainly worth getting.

Simburbia Teaser #11 RCI Demands Meter
The RCI demands meter om Simburbia shows the demands of the citizens. If they want more Residential, the green bar will be taller. If they want more Industrial, the yellow bar will be taller. It gets updated after an audit so you know where your city stands as a whole. If a bar gets too low, you will no longer be able to build that plot type. Gotta keep those bars in harmony!

Simburbia Teaser #10 Crime Syndicate
This video is demonstrating one of the random disasters that can occur. The Crime Syndicate isn’t a super bad one, but its effects will be felt over the long term if you don’t fix the plots. It effects plots in a + shape, being more devastating in the center and basically drastically reduces land value in that area. One that was a +4 is turned into a -2 in the center, so it is quite bad. When land values are reduced you get less money from them during an audit and they have a much higher chance of being abandoned over time. The only way to now fix those plots that have reduced land values like that is to either buy some government grants to bring them back up, which is expensive, or bulldoze them and rezone them.

Simburbia Teaser #9 The Flood
This video is demonstrating one of the random disasters that can occur. The Flood can potentially abandon 5 plots in a “plus” shape and can appear all over the city. Abandoned plots cause negative land value effects around them, so while the range is similar to the effect caused by Creepers, it is worse due to the plots it leaves behind unless you fix it. It should also noted that it’s one of the slowest disasters which is great because you can run a quick audit before the flood effects any of your town and get some cash while the flood is happening!
